Losing Sleep

Sleep is getting tough.  Everyone loves to comment on how tired you look when you’re pregnant and then tell you to “just wait till the baby gets here!”  I hate it when they say that.  It doesn’t give me those hours I lost last night back.  It doesn’t make me anymore able to stockpile good sleep before he gets here.

Lately my sleep goes like this.

Toss and turn till I finally fall asleep.
Toss and turn while sleeping.
Throw covers on and off me and Blue while trying to sleep through crazy hot flashes.
Snore loud enough to wake Blue up.
Blue wakes me up so I can turn and quit snoring.
Wake up to go pee.
Repeat whole cycle again.

Last night I had such bad hot flashes that I sweated through the tank top I was wearing and had to take it off because it was soaked.  Gross.

For the record I really am thankful for these problems but I also hate that I never feel like I’m caught up on sleep no matter how early I go to bed or how late I get to sleep in.  I’m just ready for him to be here I think….

I have a follow up ultrasound with the perinatologist Wednesday to check on his dilated bowels and then an OB appointment Friday.  We will also reach the 34 week milestone on Wednesday which is an important milestone for Marek’s lungs.

I also am almost completely done with the nursery and am planning on a big post about it this week or next!

  1. Ugh, I remember those days. It's true you'll probably get up more often with a newborn, BUT, i think you'll sleep better during those hour/two bits between wakeups, which I actually found preferable to the final couple of months of trying to sleep while pregnant. Do you have a snoogle? That helped me some.

    Good luck!

    1. I don't think I could have survived until now with out my snoogle. Actually I think I should write a whole post on the beauty of the snoogle... I really hope you're right about the quality of sleep after baby, I think thats the most depressing part is sleeping so many hours but not feeling like any of it was quality sleep!

  2. Ugh! The sleep patterns while pregnant aren't fun. Looking forward to your nursery post! Also, can you share your cloth diaper stash with us :)

  3. Can't wait to see some nursery pics!

I'm sorry you are having such a tough time sleeping. I wouldn't be able to sleep either with those hot flashes! Maybe Blue should get some ear plugs so he can just let you sleep whilst snoring!

Also, I had no idea what a snoogle was until I watched Jessica Simpson on Ellen. I'm with Josey, you should get one! They look awesome! :)

  4. Honestly, I found sleeping on the couch was my friend at this point. It helped me stay on my side and it was just more comfortable.

That said, I think the lack of sleep in the third trimester is related to the fact your body is prepping for the baby. And you will be surprised on how little sleep your body needs that first year.

Your need to sleep will come back, but that first year? Wow, I recall days where I slept maybe 2 hours, and still went through a 10 hour work day & most of the night caring for the little one... I'm not sure how I survived, but I did & so will you.

  5. The picture I got in my head of you sweating through your tank top was pretty darn hot. Just saying...

  6. I hear you on the sleeping issues. Naps are the only thing that's saving me these days. Thank goodness I'm not working. How did your GD test come back? Can't wait to hear about your appts this week and to make sure all is well with Marek. Also, can't wait to see the big nursery reveal! Thanks for your lovely comments on mine. :)

  7. Ugh, I'm sorry you're not sleeping well. I am right there with you. My DH wakes me up a lot to "inform" me that I'm snoring. Over dinner tonight, I told him to remove himself from our bedroom or incur the wrath the next time he thinks about doing that. The snoogle is great for getting comfy, but I will say, on nights that I'm hot, it just makes me hotter. I hope you get some good rest soon!! Can't wait to see pics of the nursery! :)

  9. Hang in there... I found lack of sleep and lethargy the hardest part of pregnancy. A special pregnancy pillow (long sausage thing to lie against) helped a lot. Thinking of you for your appt xoxo

PS. I've gone public again... so will hopefully be easier to follow :) xo
